A Swedish, abstract oil on canvas painting, featuring expressive, loose brushstrokes.
The inscription on the back of the artwork “Vid Havet Gotland” translates to “By the Sea in Gotland”, suggesting the artists inspiration was a particular landscape and seaside within Sweden.
The colours are soft and atmospheric, with a combination of warm, earthy tones and cooler coastal shades. Soft creams and ivory make up the backdrop, while sandy tan, warm ochre and deep chocolate meet with hazy blues and greys, depicting the sky and sea. Olive and dusty rose bring further depth to the overall palette and suggests foliage in the foreground.
The artwork is presented beautifully in it’s original, rustic frame, which shows the history of this beautiful piece and brings an almost primitive feel.
An ideal piece to hang separately or as part of a frame wall.
Signed and dated by the prominent, Swedish artist, Birger Jonasson.
